How You Can Follow Your Own Heart-Centered Path to Profits

There are two general paths to earning money. One is the more commonly traveled money-centered path, and the other is the less traveled heart-centered path.

Which path are you currently on?

I followed and found myself stuck on the money-centered path for years, even as I observed others traveling further down that same path with their high paid and unfulfilling jobs.

Instinctively, we can tell when someone is working at a job solely for the money. You get that same vibe from a business whose main mission is making money over delivering value to their customers.

Here are two key lessons I’ve learned from following money:
1⃣ When you chase money, you ultimately give your power to money. When you center your life around money it becomes an endless game of chasing something that seems to always be out of reach.
2⃣ Money becomes an excuse. It’s so easy to blame money for an unfulfilling life experience or to allow it to stop you from taking action to realize your desires. In reality, it’s usually not the lack of money that’s the issue; it’s the lack of ideas.

So how do you avoid the pitfalls of the money-centered path?

Here are two ways to begin following your own heart-centered path:
1⃣ Learn to focus your attention on what you love and desire most. You’ll start shifting away from that feeling of lacking something (e.g. money), and towards strong feelings of excitement and gratitude for what you already possess.
2⃣ Make passion your priority. There’s something that happens when you allow your passion to fly freely without any distractions or limitations. You’ll find yourself overflowing with energy, ideas, and inspiration. You’ll be more creative.

The most interesting thing is that the heart-centered path is also the path to abundance. You will attract the right people, opportunities, resources, and anything else you need to make your desires a reality; all with perfect timing.

I love the idea of owning online businesses aligned with my heart-centered path.

Imagine owning a business driven by your passion, and where profits are a byproduct of your passion.

Trust that everything will line up perfectly once you start following your own heart-centered path.

3 Questions Everybody Should Ask Themselves Before Buying or Building an Online Business

As I’m on my journey to buy my first profitable online business, I was asked by one of my mastermind groups why I wanted to own an online business in the first place.

My answer was “to free up more time so that I can focus on what I’m passionate about.” To me that was a solid answer, but to my group, it wasn’t enough.

They dug a little deeper and asked me exactly what I was passionate about.

Interestingly, I couldn’t give a clear and concise response. I was able to talk specifics about the amount of money I wanted to earn each month, but when it came to my passion and my desired business, my message wasn’t clear.

I was reminded of something we all inherently know: We need to be clear about what we want before we can get it.
If you don’t get clear on what you want now, you’ll end up with something you don’t want later.

In the corporate world, it’s so easy to devote years of effort and work, only to find yourself stuck in a job that doesn’t excite you.

The entrepreneurial world isn’t any different because you can invest years of time and effort into a business you wish you could get away from.

Whether you work a job or own a business, don’t make the mistake of blindly climbing up a ladder, only to reach the top and realize that it was up against the wrong wall the entire time.

To avoid the trap of investing time and energy into a business that is NOT worth owning, you should be able to answer these 3 questions:

1⃣ What are you truly passionate about?
2⃣ What’s really important to you?
3⃣ Why do you want to own a business in the first place?

Really take the time to reflect and think about these questions. Don’t settle for any answers that only touch the surface of the Truth. Dive in head first and keep searching until you grab hold of the answer that breathes life into your soul.

Although I still have much thinking to do before I figure out how I am going to combine my passion and my desired business, I do know that I enjoy creating and sharing these ideas with the people who are ready for it.

Mind Your Own Business

If you desire financial freedom, then you will need to think about your life like a business.

No matter what you are currently doing to get paid, it’s important to get into the habit of understanding your money habits. Do you manage your money well? Or, do you mismanage your money well?

For years I made the mistake of thinking that I’d learn how to manage my finances well once I had my own business. As a result, I didn’t have an accurate picture of where my money was going. Without paying attention to my personal cashflow, my credit card debt started to pile up.

Then one day, the truth slapped me across the face, as I reviewed one of my credit reports and realized the mountain of debt that I allowed to invade my personal finances like weeds.

Don’t let this happen to you. Know the truth about your financial situation now so that you can start making the necessary changes sooner than later.

To begin minding your own business, you should be able to answer these questions for yourself:
1⃣ Do I have a budget to manage my money?
2⃣ At the end of each month, is my cashflow positive or negative? By how much?
3⃣ What is the total value of my assets?
4⃣ What is the total value of my liabilities?
5⃣ What is my financial net worth (assets – liabilities)?
6⃣ How can I increase my income?
7⃣ How can I decrease my expenses?

Develop the habits to mind your own business now, so that when the money starts coming in large amounts, you’ll know exactly what to do with it. 😎

Why Do You Want to Own An Online Business?

Take time to reflect and think about your real reasons for owning an online business. Your reasons should stir up genuine feelings of excitement and passion.

To dig deeper into your true reasons for owning an online business, answer the following questions:
1⃣ How will your business allow you to express your true passions and abilities?
2⃣ How will your business deliver genuine value to others?
3⃣ Does the mission and purpose of this business align with your own values?
4⃣ Beyond money, what benefits/rewards will this business offer you?

I learned the hard way that if you’re not passionate about your online business (or any business for that matter), then you’re almost guaranteed to fail.

I purchased an online business that sold previously returned merchandise on Amazon/EBay. My sole reason for purchasing was to earn an extra $500 per month. By focusing on profits first, ignoring my own values, and not considering the value I’d be delivering to my customers, this business was doomed for failure. With a sudden change in search engine algorithm and polices, that business didn’t stand a chance. I also didn’t care enough about the business to rescue it from its distressed state. Instead, I cut my losses and learned my lessons.

So, what’s your reason for owning an online business? Financial freedom? To be able to devote time to your family? To live your desired lifestyle? To travel the world? To wake up every morning excited? To connect with cool people?

The choice is yours to decide.

You will need sufficient motivation to work through obstacles and the commitment to stick with your business when you face challenges.

Yes, money is an important consideration in business, but it isn’t the most important thing when buying or building a business.

Remember, the bottom line is at the bottom for a reason; that’s right where it belongs. 😉

Profits Are Better Than Wages

Are you currently working a full time job? If so, that’s completely fine, but you should also have a plan to establish other sources of income so that you aren’t completely dependent on one single source.

Jim Rohn says it best: WAGES make you a living, but PROFITS make you a fortune.

After I graduated from UCLA, I realized that my first job didn’t quite pay for my desired lifestyle. Instead of lowering my expenses, I thought there had to be a way to increase my income. At the time, I thought the best thing I could do was get a second job. I ended up getting an evening job where I was paid by the hour to evaluate standardized tests.

I was bored out of my mind, and within two weeks, I quit and realized two things: (1) You need to be sufficiently motivated to work two jobs, and (2) trading time for wages, is NOT the way to wealth.

After quitting that second job, my mind kept thinking of other ways to generate income. Soon after, I started a DJ business and found myself earning in one night what I earned in one week at my full time job. Although I was suddenly generating additional income to support my desired lifestyle, I realized I was still trading my time for money and I was only getting booked for the weekends, so it was difficult to scale the profits.

Now, I realize that there are ways to generate profits through online businesses that operate on automated systems. It is possible to earn income while you are working, playing, eating, or sleeping!

This is exactly where my journey of leveraging my passions and owning a profitable online businesses begins.

If you feel stuck in a job that isn’t compensating you enough to live your desired lifestyle, then do this: Work full time on making a living, and work part time on making your fortune.

Once you understand this you will begin your own journey towards building your fortune.
